Happy Samhain
In Scottish Gaelic, October 31st is known as Oidhche Shamhna (pronounced ee-ha how-na), which means "Samhain night". It is the evening before the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced sah-win), which marks the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter.
As a wee lassie, my favourite ‘guise’ was a witch, where I would wholeheartedly recite from Macbeth’s three witches, me, of course, using three different witch voices, would play the part of all three!! Armed with a broomstick and a candle lantern, I would visit as many in the village as would have me. Great memories, and yes, I was always a witch!!
Sadly now too old for such shananigans, but Robert and I stilll enjoy a wee lantern or two and the old witch in me always shows face!!
